Description & Inspiration:

Japanese Ryu Dragons a generally revered as the essence of goodness, wisdom, strength, luck, and fortune. Characterized by its 3 claws vs 4 or more found in other cultures, the 3 clawed Ryu dragons are said to be the origins of their cousins throughout East Asia culture starting around 680 A.D.

Red Ryu dragons also often represent chaos and passion. Combining traditional Japanese art stylings with the organic fluidity of my acrylic art style took a long time to practice and develop but has been well worth the effort.

This offers 3 unique perspectives (standard light only, UV light only, UV & standard light). This was created using several acrylic painting methods and treatments.

As Japanese Ryu Dragons embody how I try to impact the world around me and represent what I am trying to instill in my boys, this piece is near and dear to my heart and is one of my favorites.

When this piece is placed upside down and is combined with Ryu of Chaos and viewed as a single piece create a yin-yang symbol, showing the two complementary forces that make up all aspects and phenomena of life.

    Artwork Presentation Suggestions

    Planning, Arranging, & Hanging

Plan & Prepare: Proper preperation makes this easy!

    1. Lay the piece(s) on a table or floor.

    2. Move the pieces around until you have an arrangment and spacing that you like.

    3. Lay the piece(s) out on a large piece of wrapping paper, cardboard, or kraft paper and then trace around each piece.

    4. Mark the hanging points from the back of the art onto the paper/cardboard.

    5. Level, space, and tape the paper/cardboard to the wall.

    6. Harmmer in the nails or mount the hanging aparatus in the wall using the marked hanging points.

    7. Remove the paper/cardboard and BAM! You have masterfully and painlessly displayed your new artwork! Bravo!

    General Tips & Suggestions

Room Considerations: Take the room and wall into account when determining the anchor point, such as lightswitches, furniture, wall color, etc.

Smaller Spaces: A tightly-grouped even number of pieces is perfect and creates a window effect. Narrow or shorter pieces are perfect for finding balance between the artwork and the negative space on the wall.

Larger Spaces: A tightly-grouped even number of pieces works great to balance out a large space or high wall. These can use slihgly larger spacing than smaller spaces.

Multiple Pieces: Treat multiple works of art as a single piece instead of trying to place each piece individually.

    General Height Guidelines

Standard Wall: Try to put the center of the painting or focal point of the piece around 58” up from the floor. This is approximentaly eye level for the average person.

Above Furniture: When displaying art above a couch, sofa, or chair, aim for the bottom of the piece or frame to be 6" - 8" above the couch.

    General Lighting Guidelines

Direct Lighting: Lighting is ideally at a 30-degree angle to reduce glare, subtract 5 degrees to accent texture, add 5 degrees to avoid frame shadows.

Ambient Lighting: Consider layering multiple sources of light such as natural, ambient, and focused light to provide beautiful viewing of your art and home at any time of day.

Blacklight/UV Reactive Pieces: Using a blacklight or color changing bulb set to a deep blue/purple will bring the piece to life. Exclusively using this lighting or in combination with traditional light both work amazingly. Experiment to see what you like best.

    General Spacing Guidelines

Multiple Pieces: 2”-3” minimum, 4”-5” normal, 6” max. (Use your hand, fingers closed as a good quick estimate).

Above Furniture: Art displayed over objects such as a couch, table, or chair should be about 50% -75% the width of the object (using one or multiple pieces).

Above a Fireplace/Mantle: Art displayed over room focal points, such as a fireplace or mantle, should be the same width as the fireplace opening.
